4 Fiber Supplements That Can Control Blood Sugar

Okay, so I’ve written about supplements quite a bit, here. They all seem to cure something or prevent another thing.

Well, here’s yet another one to add to your list.

Before I begin, I must mention something: taking supplements cannot and will not cure your diabetes. The idea is that supplements, such as multivitamins, provide a boost of vitamins and minerals. Vitamins and minerals can certainly help heal the symptoms, but no real healing can occur if you’re not getting your them from an all natural, whole foods based diet.

Plain and simple.

Except for this particular supplement, of course.

So it turns out that unlike other multivitamins and homeopathic remedies, supplemental
fiber
can have major benefits for diabetics.

Health care professionals have been saying for years that fiber can help control blood glucose. This is because fiber slows the digestion process down so that glucose doesn’t flood your blood, which causes serious problems for diabetics.

Well, given what they also know about supplements not being quite as effective as whole foods, they wanted to know if this was also true for supplemental fiber.

In a recent study out of Brazil, scientists separated diabetic participants into three groups. One group ate a breakfast high in fiber via natural foods. The second group ate a breakfast supplemented with fiber. The third group ate an average breakfast to serve as a control group.

What they found was that the first two groups had pretty similar responses in their blood glucose levels, demonstrating that fiber in powder form can be just as effective at controlling blood glucose as a natural fiber is.

While this is certainly exciting for those looking for a quick-fix for support in blood glucose
control, it cannot be used in place of actual whole foods.

Whole foods come with all the vitamins and minerals that your body needs to not only thrive but also to simply survive. By having type 2 diabetes, your body is doing the very opposite of surviving.

In fact, it is deteriorating.

Instead of reaching for the chemical-laden stuff at the drugstore, try out these five all-natural fiber supplements:

#1 Psyllium Husk

Psyllium husk is by far the best natural fiber supplement. Besides being packed with the good stuff, it also works as a coagulant, meaning that it absorbs water as it passes through the intestines. This gives you fuller, firmer, and smoother stools to pass.

#2 Flax Seeds

Flax seeds are so easy to sprinkle into your diet. They go well with smoothies, oatmeal, salads and even plain water. Just one tablespoon has almost 3 grams of fiber, so go nuts!

#3 Chia Seeds

Chia seeds work like psyllium husk by absorbing water but have the added benefit of fatty acids. Like flax seeds, feel free to sprinkle them on anything and everything to up your fiber intake!

#4 Wheat Germ

About a quarter cup of wheat germ provides almost 4 grams of dietary fiber. The cool part about this is that this same serving has 6.5 grams of protein, so power up!
