Can a Relaxing Bath Reduce the Risk of Diabetes?

With all this diabetes talk, it seems like we are constantly looking for (and finding!) answers as to how every little thing might improve diabetes conditions. This quest for knowledge has come all the way down to a tiny little mineral that often goes forgotten, even in the healthiest of circles.

Magnesium is the wonder mineral, and luckily, it is so easy and fun to get your daily intake.

Benefits of Magnesium

Magnesium is not just a spot treatment kind of mineral. While most people know of it (if they know of it at all) as the mineral that makes you poo, it can actually do a lot more than that.

In fact, researchers have found that there are thousands of magnesium-binding sites on human proteins, meaning that magnesium is a pretty essential component to basic functioning at the cellular level.

As it turns out, a lot of people are magnesium deficient. The symptoms of magnesium deficiency vary widely, including muscle aches and spasms, headaches, anxiety, sleep problems, poor digestion, and even diabetes.

Most healthcare providers recommend upping your intake of magnesium if you are a bit sluggish in the bathroom or if you have difficulty relaxing and sleeping. Why? That’s because magnesium works as a natural muscle relaxer, both for your bowels and muscles. It also directly supports energy production, all the while keeping you relaxed.

Magnesium Reduces Risk of Diabetes

Several studies in recent years have all found that there is a common factor in people with insulin resistance: they are also low in magnesium. The findings were so significant that participants with higher levels of magnesium had a 71% lower risk of key indicators of diabetes! All of the authors of each of the studies agreed that magnesium is a crucial mineral to have to manage or prevent type 2 diabetes.

Science has supported the theory that magnesium plays a key role in metabolic functioning, especially when it comes to insulin, glucose regulation, and ATP production. So even though magnesium may be the key to preventing type 2 diabetes, it also can serve as an important natural treatment for softening the volatility of type 1 diabetes.

Relaxing Magnesium Bath

You can take magnesium supplements if you’d like but this can sometimes be harsh on the digestive process if-you-know-what-I-mean. Instead, you can get all the magnesium you need with a nice, relaxing Epsom salt bath. Epsom salt is naturally loaded with magnesium and is easily absorbed through the skin in a bath. Soak up!

You’ll need:

  • 2 cups of Epsom salts
  • 10-15 drops of your favorite essential oil (I love lavender)

Fill the bathtub with hot water. Mix the salt and essential oil until dissolved. Sit yourself in and soak for at least 20 minutes. Grab some Himalayan Sea Salt and mix it with some coconut oil to give yourself a luxurious detoxifying body scrub. The sea salt will give you smooth skin and pull toxins out while you soak.

Enjoy!
