If there is one thing that infuriates me more than wasting food, it is the term “diabetic food”.
Seriously, what does it even mean?
Let’s make things clear once and for all: there is no such thing as “diabetic foods”. Diabetics do not have their special diet like people with celiac disease or allergies. Diabetics are allowed to eat anything and everything, within reasonable amounts.
Don’t get me wrong. Certain foods offer more benefits than others, like whole grains and unsaturated fats over refined grains and trans fat. However, it doesn’t mean that you need to say farewell to the creamy risotto or the oh-so-flaky croissant. It’s all about portion control and overall (not one-day) diet quality.
The next time someone tries to sell you “diabetic foods”, huff away.
