Have you ever thought you could lower your blood glucose and cholesterol level without pills? If only you knew which diet plan to follow. You may not believe us, but I have news about a solution for diabetes: good news and better news.

Good News: What Recent Studies Show

Doctors and scientists have been experimenting with ways to tackle type 2 diabetes, once and for all. It has been a communal knowledge among researchers that animal-derived fats could be harmful to people with diabetes. In spite of this, it is only recently that they agreed to publish an analysis of preceding researchers to expose that eradicating animal-derived fats from the diet could increase insulin sensitivity.

Neal Barnard, M.D., FACC, the author of Dr. Neal Barnard’s Program for Reversing Diabetes, has published an 18-month study involving 255 adults diagnosed with type 2 diabetes who consumed either a restrained-carb diet or a low-fat plant-based diet. The result shows that there was a significant reduction of weight and cholesterol levels in both groups. However, the vegetarian group there experienced a significantly greater decrease in HbA1C and LDL-cholesterol.

For people who are not familiar with diabetes, HbA1c is a key-blood protein complex (glycated hemoglobin) in our body that reflects average plasma glucose concentration. As HbA1c level decreases so does the risk of developing diabetes-related complications such as worsening vascularisation and retinal damage.

About a year ago, to my embarrassment, I learned that I have been having the wrong facts about vegetarian diets. It sounds too good to be true, but going vegetarian does not always equal to eradicating all animal products from your weekly shopping. In fact, there is a span of selection in the plant-based diets spectrum with varying degrees of food restrictions:

There are so many healthy options for you to tame type 2 diabetes. If you include a great variety of the foods to eat, the only things you will miss are diabetes complications and the bad habit.
